REPUBLIC RADON CENTRE

The centre provides scientific and methodological management on the problems of radiation ecology, hygiene and safety, protection of the population from ionising radiation, prospective radiation-related technologies in different spheres of industry, medicine and agriculture. The main tasks of the centre are: co-ordination of scientific-research work, development of regulatory and technical documentation on radiation monitoring and protection of the population from radiation, preparation of programs and expertise of projects relating to problems of radiation ecology and hygiene and implementation of the radiation technologies in the state economy.

The followings are the main work directions of the centre:

  • assessment of the radio-ecological situation in the Republic, radiation monitoring, forecasting effects from ionising radiation for people, flora and fauna, development of sanitary norms and regulations to be followed when working with sources of ionising radiation, organisation of the radiation control and measures ensuring radiation safety;
  • development of effective radiation and photochemical methods for de-contamination of hazardous atmospheric emissions; investigation of mechanisms and kinetics of the atmospheric photo-radiation processes and ozone layer problems; preparation of methodological and technical solutions for utilisation of radiology-orientated technologies in different industries;
  • analysis of radon emissions into atmosphere, its content and accumulation in the soils, subsurface waters and in the ambient air, radon surveys at different sites and facilities of industrial and civil nature.

  • Dosimetry of penetrating radiation.
