Department "Oil" | Department "Gas" | Department "Electroenergy" | Department "Alternative energy sources" | Department "Ecology" | Department "Water ecosystems" | Department "Mathematics, physics and technical sciences" | Department "Building complex" | Department "Economy" DEPARTMENT "ELECTROENERGY" Natural resources and conditions of Azerbaijan contributed to development of the Republic's energy industry and its leading role, not only in the Caucasian Region but in the whole Soviet Union. Today the Republic energy supply system is represented by a range of thermal and hydraulic power stations with power more than 5000 MWt, including a major thermal power station with power 2400 MWt and good prospects for further expansion; long-distance transmission lines 35-110-220-350-500 kV and modern control and management systems. Reliability and economic efficiency of the energy supply system is supported by a strong scientific and technical potential whose achievements are widely recognised, and not only in the CIS countries. Scientific activity of the IEA scientists in energy development is carried out in three main directions:
Objectives of the Department are dictated by available capacities, existing scientific problems and transition of independent Azerbaijan to a market economy. Objectives of the Department: development of a scientifically-substantiated concept of the prospects of electric energy production as a component of the fuel and energy complex of Azerbaijan Republic and the Region; improvement of management systems for energy industry ensuring its economic efficiency and reliability; development of efficient and environment-friendly technologies for energy generation, transmission and utilisation; introduction of alternative energy sources into the structure of the fuel and energy complex of the Republic. "Electoenergy" Department comprises 2 sections. SECTION: SYSTEM INVESTIGATIONS IN POWER ENGINEERING Objectives of the Section: working out of a scientifically-substantiated concept for the future electric energy development as a component of the fuel and energy complex under market economy. SECTION: MANAGEMENT OF ENERGY DEVELOPMENT Objectives of the Section: development of effective methods and means for management of the electric energy system ensuring its reliability and stability. |
