Activities of the department include systematic research on: environmental issues of the Caspian basin and Absheron peninsula caused by oil and gas fields' development in the Contract area; problems in the agricultural sector of the state economy of Azerbaijan; establishment of regional ecological intrabasin management system aimed at obtaining biologically clean agricultural products; rational utilisation by phyto- and agrophytocenoses of radioactive energy and water resources; development and practical realisation of complex measures for recultivation of lands damaged during mining of organic and mineral raw materials and construction of surface and subsurface communications; examination of ecological state of saline and eroded soils and radiological conditions in agricultural regions with concentration of major industrial enterprises and development of measures for elimination of such conditions; ecology of vegetation, medical ecology and assessment of how the environment affects humane body; mechanisms and peculiarities of damaging effects from "ecological" UV-radiation for biologic systems...
